Ex-Super Eagles Skipper Yobo Hints At Political Run

FORMER Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has fuelled intense speculation about a potential foray into politics, carefully declining to rule out a future bid for public office during a series of high-profile appearances at commissioning events in the Federal Capital Territory.

When pressed on whether his repeated presence at the unveiling of major projects signalled ambitions beyond the pitch, the ex-international offered a characteristically guarded response, leaving the door firmly ajar.

“You can never truly tell what will happen; the future is always in God’s hands,” Yobo stated. “As for whether I will join politics, you can never say never.”

The football legend, who once led Nigeria on the global stage, was keen to point out that leadership is not unfamiliar territory.

“I am a sports person, but of course, I have lived most of my life abroad, served as the captain of the Nigerian national team, and held leadership roles before,” he noted.

According to Yobo, his growing curiosity about governance stems from a firsthand appreciation of how decisions taken at the top filter down to affect ordinary citizens.

“I am naturally interested because politics and governance shape our daily lives. You just never know what the future holds. When the time is right, God will decide,” he added.

For the time being, the retired defender insists his immediate focus is on celebrating the wave of urban renewal sweeping through the capital.

He has been a conspicuous figure at recent project unveilings in the FCT, and was quick to credit the ongoing transformation to Minister Nyesom Wike, whom he described as his former governor.

Yobo said his attendance was about standing in solidarity with the millions of Nigerians watching the city’s structural revamp unfold.

He argued that anyone familiar with Abuja prior to this administration would acknowledge the dramatic shift, and urged those in charge to maintain the momentum.

With the FCT currently undergoing a sweeping administrative and infrastructural overhaul, Yobo’s remarks have ignited fresh debate among sports commentators and political observers alike.

Many now view the ex-captain’s possible entry into the political arena as an unpredictable factor that could well shake up future election cycles.
