AN early-morning fire has ravaged a section of the popular Justrite Superstore in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State, destroying the electronics section on the building’s second floor.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the incident occurred at a store located near Jimoh Bus Stop, Egbeda-Akowonjo, but assured the public that firefighters had successfully extinguished the blaze.
Swift Response
According to the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and deployed equipment to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjoining sections of the commercial building.
“Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly deployed firefighting equipment and commenced coordinated operations to contain the fire, prevent its spread to adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives, property and the environment,” Adeseye said in a statement on Thursday.
“The fire has been put out, and recovery of the remains is ongoing to bring the mop-up exercise to a wrap.”
Cause and Casualties
The fire is believed to have been triggered by an alternative power source—specifically a solar inverter system. Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded.
Footage of the inferno, shared on social media and by the agency, showed thick smoke billowing from the rooftop of the building.
This incident follows a recent fire outbreak at a Lagos market where 17 shops were gutted, raising fresh concerns about fire safety in commercial areas across the state.
