THE Nigerian Navy has commissioned a newly constructed duty cabin and remodelled quarter guard stand at the Naval Outpost in Onitsha, in a move aimed at enhancing personnel welfare, improving operational efficiency and strengthening civil-military relations.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, aligns with the strategic directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and the leadership vision of the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim.
Representing the FOC at the event, Commodore Tanko Lengaya conveyed Rear Admiral Ibrahim’s goodwill message and reaffirmed the command headquarters’ unwavering commitment to supporting the Naval Outpost in achieving its operational objectives.
He urged officers and ratings to emulate the exemplary leadership of the Commanding Officer by cultivating a culture of excellence and leaving lasting legacies at every duty post.
According to Commodore Lengaya, the newly commissioned duty cabin will significantly improve the welfare of personnel by providing a conducive resting facility for officers on duty, thereby reducing work-related stress and addressing the long-standing challenge of inadequate rest space during off-duty hours.
In his remarks, the Commanding Officer of the Naval Outpost, Commander Kabir Yusuf, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for providing the visionary leadership and enabling environment that inspire officers to innovate and discharge their responsibilities effectively.
He also commended the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, for his continuous guidance, encouragement and mentorship, which he said have contributed immensely to the successful execution of the project.
Commander Yusuf further acknowledged the invaluable support of the host community, describing its contribution to the completion of the project as a clear demonstration of the strong partnership between the Nigerian Navy and its host communities under the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative.
The ceremony culminated in the official cutting of the commissioning ribbon and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, symbolising a new phase in infrastructure development and personnel welfare at the Naval Outpost, while reinforcing the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to operational excellence and community engagement.
