ALHAJI Lekan Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland and a distinguished veteran journalist who served as press secretary to successive Oyo State governors, has passed away at the age of 76.
The respected traditional chief and media icon died on Saturday morning in Lagos, his family has confirmed.
His death was announced in a statement issued by Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
According to family sources, the late chief will be laid to rest on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
A Life of Distinguished Service
Alabi enjoyed a stellar career spanning decades in journalism, public communication and public service.
He served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State, earning a reputation as one of the most respected media professionals in the region.
Beyond his contributions to journalism, Alabi was a prominent figure in the traditional institution, holding the title of Abese Olubadan in the Olubadan chieftaincy line — a position that underscored his standing within Ibadan’s revered traditional hierarchy.
