AFROBEATS megastar David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, has threatened to bypass Nigerian authorities and appeal directly to US President Donald Trump should the forthcoming Osun State governorship election be rigged.
The singer, who is actively campaigning for his uncle and incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, made the remarks during a livestream with comedian Carter Efe, insisting he would take his protest all the way to the White House if necessary.
“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us.’ They think it’s a joke,” Davido declared.
The award-winning artiste expressed deep scepticism about Nigeria’s electoral system, stating he would only consider running for political office himself when elections are conducted transparently.
“Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election. If there’s a free and fair election, let everybody come out to vote, I will win. But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write the results,” he said.
With the Osun governorship election scheduled for 15 August, Davido made it clear he is watching developments closely. “I want to see what they are going to do in Osun. We are waiting,” he warned.
The singer, who heads youth mobilisation for his uncle’s re-election campaign, concluded his remarks with a direct plea to those seeking to influence the outcome: “Leave Osun alone oo, leave it”.
His comments have drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some urging him to extend his advocacy beyond his family’s political interests to broader national issues.
