IN a significant move to digitise the admissions process, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled a new system that permits candidates applying to Nigerian tertiary institutions to upload and verify their O’Level results from the comfort of their homes.
Under the revamped arrangement, candidates will no longer be required to visit Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres solely for the purpose of uploading their Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.
Instead, JAMB will now verify results directly with the respective examination bodies, commencing with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), prior to adding them to the candidates’ profiles.
The Board’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the development in an official statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
Dr Benjamin characterised the initiative as a core component of JAMB’s ongoing efforts to render its services more accessible, efficient, secure, and convenient through the strategic deployment of technology.
He explained that the integration of JAMB’s e-Facility platform with examination bodies would enable a seamless cross-check of candidates’ results against official records before they are downloaded into individual profiles.
The new digital verification process is anticipated to substantially curtail challenges traditionally associated with manual result uploads.
These include the risk of misplaced documents, the submission of fraudulent or unverified results, and frequent errors in the entry of subjects and grades.
Furthermore, JAMB noted that the initiative would alleviate the operational burden on CBT centres, particularly during peak patronage periods, whilst simultaneously sparing candidates the ordeal of enduring lengthy queues.
To utilise the service, candidates are instructed to log on to the JAMB platform, input their National Identification Number (NIN), and specify the number of examination sittings along with the relevant examination body.
They will subsequently be required to provide an email address and GSM number, and to settle the verification fee via debit card or bank transfer. Additionally, candidates must furnish their examination number, series, and year of examination for the verification to be processed.
JAMB reiterated that the new protocol would fortify the overall verification of O’Level results whilst rendering admission-related services significantly more user-friendly for candidates nationwide.
