THE Delta State Police Command has played host to 20 senior defence intelligence officers as part of a national study tour aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture through enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
Commissioner of Police Yemi John Oyeniyi welcomed the delegation from the Defence Intelligence College, Karu-Abuja, at the command headquarters in Asaba on Tuesday, where he delivered a comprehensive presentation on the critical importance of intelligence sharing in contemporary policing.
The visiting officers, participants of the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course (ADIOC) 16/2026, were led by College Commandant Commodore U.N. Bugaje. They were received by CP Oyeniyi alongside members of the command’s management team.
Addressing the delegation on the course theme, “Strengthening National Resilience Through Integrated, Multi-Agency Coordination and Regional Security Cooperation,” CP Oyeniyi emphasised that modern security threats render isolated agency operations obsolete.
“The nature of present-day security challenges makes cooperation among security and intelligence agencies not just desirable but absolutely indispensable,” the Commissioner stated.
Drawing on operational successes across the state, CP Oyeniyi showcased how intelligence-led policing and inter-agency coordination have yielded tangible results in crime reduction, citing specific command operations as evidence of the approach’s effectiveness.
The interactive session saw participants pose probing questions on policing methodologies, intelligence gathering techniques, crime prevention strategies, and operational security matters—all of which were addressed by the Commissioner and senior officers present.
A statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the visit concluded with the Delta State Police Command reaffirming its unwavering commitment to collaborative security efforts.
“The Command remains dedicated to cooperation with other security and intelligence agencies in the protection of lives and property across the state,” the statement read.
The study tour forms part of the Defence Intelligence College’s curriculum, exposing senior officers to real-world policing operations and fostering the multi-agency relationships deemed essential to Nigeria’s national security strategy.
