Defence Ministry Turns to Tech in Fight Against Insecurity

THE Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence capabilities through technological innovation, intelligence-driven operations and strategic partnerships with the private sector.

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd.), OFR, made this known at a Dell Technologies programme themed “Innovate with Data,” held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Technology and Innovation, Air Vice Marshal Bulus, the minister said the ministry’s vision rests on three operational pillars: enhancing joint operational synergy among the Armed Forces, improving the welfare and morale of military personnel, and promoting intelligence-driven, technology-enabled defence.

He described the third pillar as critical to preparing Nigeria’s defence sector for emerging security challenges, noting that modern warfare increasingly demands the integration of technology, intelligence and innovation.

According to him, the ministry is taking deliberate steps to harness emerging technologies through partnerships with relevant stakeholders in order to improve operational efficiency and strengthen national security.

General Musa disclosed that the ministry was taking the lead in organising a two-day technology workshop in collaboration with Dell Technologies as part of efforts to advance technology adoption within the defence sector.

He said the partnership reflected the ministry’s commitment to working with credible private-sector organisations possessing proven global expertise and a demonstrated interest in local content development.

The minister emphasised that indigenous participation and capacity building were essential to achieving sustainable growth in Nigeria’s defence industry.

He expressed optimism that the workshop would provide opportunities for knowledge sharing, strengthen partnerships and generate practical solutions to improve the ministry’s operational capabilities.

General Musa also expressed confidence that the outcomes of the engagement would contribute significantly to the development of technology-driven solutions for addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

The programme featured a presentation by Dell Technologies on its solutions and potential areas of collaboration with the Ministry of Defence.

The presentation highlighted the company’s integrated, end-to-end technology platform, designed to provide a unified solution capable of supporting faster responses to operational missions.

The engagement underscores the ministry’s efforts to deepen collaboration with technology providers and explore innovative approaches to improving intelligence gathering, operational coordination and mission effectiveness across the defence sector.
