GUINEANS will head to the polls tomorrow 31 May, 2026 to elect 147 members of parliament and 342 mayors, as the West African nation prepares for combined legislative and local elections.
In response to the upcoming vote, the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed a technical election observation mission to Guinea, which has been running from 24 May to 4 June 2026.

The mission comprises 40 experts, including representatives of electoral management bodies and election observation specialists from other ECOWAS member states.
Their deployment is supported by 10 staff members from the regional organisation’s Commission, who will ensure better coordination and efficient implementation of the mission’s activities.

Observers will be dispatched to various regions across the country to monitor the electoral process and report on its conduct.
The elections are seen as a critical step in Guinea’s transition, and the presence of regional monitors is intended to bolster transparency and public confidence in the results.
