WARRI – High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, has appealed for calm following a peaceful mass action by women and youths who have occupied oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri river areas.
The protest, which began on 8 June 2026, stems from the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to complete the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency.
In a press statement issued from Oporoza Town in the Gbaramatu Kingdom, Tompolo – the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited – urged all parties to avoid violence and seek a peaceful resolution.
“The Ijaw nation has from time immemorial been known for their peaceful ways and we cannot deviate from our history,” Tompolo said.
“The current political situation arising from the failure of INEC to complete the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency and mass action must not be allowed to be hijacked or to degenerate into violence of any sort.”

He called for an immediate meeting of community leaders to devise a way forward, adding that “INEC must determine to do the right thing and restore the peace in Warri and environs.”
The influential leader also appealed directly to the people of Warri, regardless of their ethnic background. “We call on the people of Warri (whether Ijaw, Itsekiri or Urhobo) to be calm and wait patiently for INEC to do the right thing,” he said.

His intervention comes as many well‑meaning Nigerians have been urging a peaceful end to the impasse.
Tompolo echoed those calls, stressing that the mass action must not be hijacked by anyone with violent intentions.
As of press time, INEC had yet to officially respond to the demands.
