Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting
THE Adamawa State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of Muhammad Auwal Idris, a tea seller at Banga, Nassarawo Borehole, Jimeta, who was fatally assaulted on 28 September 2026.
Following sustained collaboration and intelligence-led investigation, operatives of the Command arrested three suspects: Isah Yakubu, alias Sangalo, 20, of Nassarawo, Jimeta; Japhet Hassan, alias Slow, 24, of Banga, Nassarawo; and Eric Alfred, alias Mamaji, 19, of Nassarawo, Jimeta.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident stemmed from an earlier altercation in which the first suspect, Isah Yakubu, allegedly took a cigarette from a shop without paying.
The deceased, who was at the scene to buy seasoning, became involved in the argument.
Angered by the incident, Isah Yakubu is said to have invited the other two suspects the following day.
They trailed the victim to his workplace and subjected him to a severe beating, leaving him unconscious.
The victim was rushed to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, ordered an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators.
The suspects, who had fled to Taraba State, were tracked and arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism, and has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to ensure a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution.
The CP reassured the family of the deceased and the general public that justice will be served, and urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
The Command also called on eyewitnesses and members of the public with useful information to come forward to assist the investigation.
Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
