IBADAN – The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Oyo State Chapter, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies to intensify efforts for the immediate and safe release of schoolchildren, teachers, and other victims abducted in Orire Local Government Area.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the party expressed deep sympathy with the government and people of Oyo State, particularly Governor Seyi Makinde and the affected families, who have endured “pain, fear, and uncertainty” since the tragic incident occurred.
The SDP appealed to all relevant authorities to explore every lawful and practical option to secure the victims’ freedom.
The statement noted that anyone who has watched the emotional pleas of school authorities and family members would appreciate the level of suffering and trauma being experienced.
“Reports and images showing children sleeping on bare floors and being exposed to harsh weather conditions further highlight the urgency of the situation,” the party said.
The SDP stressed that the lives, safety, and well-being of the innocent children and teachers must remain a top priority, and called on all stakeholders at federal, state, and local levels to work together towards a swift resolution.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families, and the entire Orire Local Government community during this difficult period,” added Hon Olugbenga Omotayo Badejo, the party’s State Publicity Secretary.
Authorities have yet to issue an official update on the abduction, which has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over school security in the region.
