THE outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, has warned personnel against the misuse of social media, urging commanders to initiate projects that leave enduring legacies and enhance operational efficiency.
General Emekah, who is also the Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to securing the nation’s assets and oil and gas operations in the Niger Delta region.
Social Media Awareness Lecture
The GOC spoke while declaring open the Third Quarter Social Media Awareness Lecture for 2026 at the Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.
He said the lecture was organised to sensitise personnel on the Armed Forces of Nigeria Social Media Policy 2018, with focus on violations and consequences of non-compliance.
“Despite the existing policy, instances of misuse by military personnel still occur and pose serious security risks to operations and national security,” he said.
The GOC stated that the lecture was aimed at “reinforcing the culture of responsible social media usage, reducing breaches to the barest minimum and preventing the leakage of classified and sensitive military information.”
He stressed that every soldier must safeguard operational information and uphold the integrity of the Nigerian Army both online and offline.
General Emekah commended the Commander, Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Emmanuel Mustafa, for enlightening troops on cyber security and responsible digital conduct.
Commissioning of Accommodation Block
Similarly, while commissioning a renovated accommodation block and a dual-purpose photo stand with notice board at Headquarters 29 Battalion, Port Harcourt Barracks, on Wednesday, the GOC charged commanders of units to initiate projects that enhance personnel welfare and operational efficiency.
He said providing decent and conducive accommodation for troops and their families remained a priority, noting that improved living conditions boost morale and fighting efficiency.

He commended the Commanding Officer, 29 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo, for the projects, describing the photo stand as an initiative that preserves institutional memory and promotes esprit de corps, and urged troops to maintain the facilities.
TotalEnergies Partnership
In another development, General Emekah, while hosting the TotalEnergies Joint Venture delegation led by Deputy Managing Director, Joint Venture Asset, Mr Olivier Cassassoles, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to a secured environment for oil and gas operations in the Niger Delta.
He said the improved security environment and rise in crude oil production reflect the collective efforts of security agencies and stakeholders, while assuring that the 6 Division would continue to support initiatives to protect critical national assets.
Delegation’s Commendation
Mr Cassassoles commended the GOC and troops for providing security that enabled uninterrupted production and the execution of projects such as the Ubeta Gas Development Project.
The delegation lauded the troops for safeguarding critical infrastructure, and assured that the Army-TotalEnergies partnership would be sustained by the incoming GOC. They urged the company to continue supporting troops with operational equipment.
The events marked some of the final official engagements of General Emekah as GOC, capping a tenure characterised by a focus on operational security, personnel welfare and strategic partnerships in the Niger Delta region.
